Phyllis, Had this been the first time a thread like this was written, I would agree with you. But this goes as far back to the attack on Hillary. And I seem to recall being the lone voice on that thread asking for civility. Joni responded to my post thanking us for all the comments. Then Liz wrote a similar post asking for civility. We ourselves have asked for it on numerous occasions. Then you read Mr. Harvey on this very same thread and wonder what message he got from Susan’s comment. Now you say we need to keep trying. Have you noticed that Susan B. has not responded. She signed out of WoW and deleted WoW from her bookmark. Here is the woman who wrote this heartfelt comment totally disgusted on what she is seeing here. I hope she returns, but I will not. I would love a place where our voices can be heard, but when someone starts out a comment to me saying she knows I meant to be respectful and then goes on to accuse me of being “presumptuous and condescending”, when indeed that was not my intent, I have to wonder about the meaning of civil discourse. A work in progress is a long journey and they are losing many good people along the way. I for one will find other outlets, and if one day WoW can find its way back to what it once envisioned, I would love to return. But Lily is right. You can’t put up titles that invite rancor. Sometimes those titles don’t even fit the story. And, if there is really is a 10 Commandments of WoW, it needs vigorous oversite because WoW has broken its own moral code and that goes for both the left and right and those of us in between who got caught up in the attack mode. Maybe you haven’t noticed, but it’s no longer a “few people”. Yes, this was done on both sides of the fence, but there are people here that just love to go negative and their are people here who love to egg on those you call “virus invasions”. I for one would love to see the “reply” button eliminated especially when it is used as a weapon instead of a tool. (It also is responsible for getting your page 1 comment booted over to page 6 LOL). I wish you luck with your vision for WoW. If only the Founders can get together and work towards your goal.

Now you are calling an attack “disagreeing”. No, you are not complaining. You are being your own sweet lovable self. I remember telling you that AC was not “civil” and there were many other Conservative authors that were and should be included at WoW also. You went ballistic. I wouldn’t call that mature discourse. Even other commenters told you I was not being rude. You didn’t seem to care.

I recall trying to have a civil discourse with you last spring, and was brutally attacked by you. I have not had any conversations with you since. I do agree that Suzanne needed to get deleted more than once and like you I have been a target of her attacks. But she has more than 9 lives and comes back as a different entity even though it goes against the terms of agreement. Why did it take so long for Jim Henley to get booted from this site? He said the same vile things over and over again. Traitor is only one part of all this. But for you to come across as an innocent by-stander is totally false. Of course you are not complaining about the level of civility. Civility has never been your style.

Please delete me and my 2191 comments from this site. And Joni, you can’t make “subjective” decisions based on your own 10 commandments. If someone is labeled “traitor” that is not only a personal insult, but under US laws a crime against our nation. Seems like a slanderous or in this case libelous (always get those mixed up) comment to make. Even if you want to label it “insightful”. Frank, You have also been a BIG part of this egging them on constantly. Alex, My comment on this thread was not directed at you. However, one can be against Gay marriage w/o having to bash Gays. SJ Morgan, Education is not an “EXPENSE”, it is an investment in our future and our kids deserve better conditions that to sit in a school that is falling apart. I thought this thread was supposed to be about civility, but Joni’s comment gave him permission to continue to be “insightful” Joni. I still think it’s all about the bottom line with you. I just want to know if each and every single founder agrees with your reasons for not hitting delete when it does cross the line of your own terms of use. Liza, I want to take this opportunity to tell you how much I love your cartoons and for me you were the best part of Wow. I have decided to leave WoW because of the level of discourse. And after reading Joni’s comment “Some people’s mean-spiritedness is another person’s insightful comment” that was the icing on the cake. Anyway, I will be purchasing the Cartoon Marriage book and I know I will enjoy it. Love ya!

Frank, I just came across this comment and am so sorry. But totally confused because I thought Annie was the love of your life unless you are talking about someone else. I have noticed a change in your tone when I finally recovered from my operation this summer. I came back to find you a whole different person. Your comments were always loving and kind, but now you seemed to have found a new voice. I truly hope you have found happiness.

Lily, Amazing that you of all people want to be out. I have thought of that many times this week. And I am not happy that there are 2 people who are Dems also playing at this vile game. I like Diana have been accused of being a traitor and was never offered an apology. Wow didn’t even delete that comment which in my opinion is just as offensive as a personal slur.

Thank you Susan. I was away last week, and when I came back to WoW, I found myself overwhelmed by a hateful comment about Obama, Democrats and the Gay community all rolled up in one comment and having others agree with it. I am extremely glad many people are no longer commenting on “those threads”, but to see Marlo’s touching article highlighting the efforts of an American playwright helping the rape victims in the Congo getting less than 20 comments, I am left stunned by the lack of sensitivity and humanity by the people who visit this site.

Frank, The fact that these women who were victimized in the most terrible way imaginable are standing up and taking these steps is both encouraging and courageous. Articles like this on Wow are more important than getting into the arguments on Obama and Palin with some of the most hateful people ever on this site. Yet, there are less than 20 comments here and even your friend DeB is nowhere to be found here. Please boycott those sites and visit more articles like this one so we can get Wow back to the website it used to be.

Given the topic, this was not an easy article to get through. The fact that Eve is witnessing small changes that can grow into great ones is encouraging. Marlo is right, she is a saint. Thank you Margo for sharing this with us. Yes, these are the types of articles that make WoW a site that can help change the conditions of women all over the world, yet so far there have been less than 15 comments. I think many women are giving up on this site. I have boycotted anything Palin, and then I see those sites about Palin or Obama with over 100 posts (all from the same women and men) who have nothing better to do than call each other names or try to one-up the other. There was another story today about a lukemia patient with AIDS is now AIDS free after getting a certain type of bone marrow transplant.

My objection is that I did not put anyone down in my comment, but you come along and crap all over it. You are entitled to your opinion, but it does not have to be attached to something I wrote. My comment was for the future of our school children who are going to school in run-down buildings that are overcrowded. Obviously the issue of the future of these kids means nothing to you. Whether it takes a year or two to build these schools, it is a necessity but today the Repubs got their way and that budget was cut.

Frank, Didn’t you get the memo???? Stay away from Palin threads. It’s just a WoW tactic to build up comments and fights. Meanwhile great threads like Helen Suzman get few comments. If we want better topics, like the kind Wow used to post when it first started, we need to take a stand by not commenting every time the word Palin comes up.
