Today is Earth Day! What's the most wasteful thing that you do?

I too waste too much money on take out when I am perfectly able to cook for myself. Sometimes I forget to turn off the lights, and I am trying to improve on that. It just occurred to me to suggest to my co-op that we come together to think of ways of celebrating Earth Day by making our building a more eco-friendly place.

Does a Little Obama 'Elitism' Go a Long Way in Politics?

As someone who strongly wanted Edwards, I was forced to make a decision, and decided Obama would be the best choice. However, I no longer feel that way. Now that I know he did know about Rev. Wright’s feelings before his campaign (even if he didn’t hear it personally), and see how the media treats him like a god instead of doing their job, I wonder about his credibility. But, more important, I do question his ability to understand the middle class. Case in point: If a married couple who are either teachers or police have a joint income of $200,000 or more with police overtime (keep in mind a NYC teacher needs to complete 22 years of service to make $100,000), Obama is going to tax them at a higher rate. Now that may sound like a lot of money to a man who makes a lot of money, but after 22 years, their are children to raise, colleges to pay for, car loans, gas, rent or mortagages, and maybe even a wedding to plan. And, if this couple “dared” to invest, Obama wants to raise the capital gains tax. If you don’t think this effects the middle class, think again. Clinton has issues of her own, and that fake snipper attack does not sit well with me either. And, because the media treated Edwards so badly, I am stuck having to vote for either Obama or Hillary over McCain and I just don’t feel good about it.

What do you consider to be the new seven deadly sins?

Abuse in any form, by anyone. Arrogance and intimidation Being self-centered and uncompromising (enough about my boss) Intolerance Greed Whatever allows people like Britney, Paris, etal to do whatever they do and get away with it. (probably all of the above). Not providing affordable health care, and allowing insurance companies to turn down life-saving procedures and meds.

What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done?

Many, many years ago, I rented a moped in Bermuda because it looked easy to drive, and drove on the streets. They drive on the opposite side of the road, and I wasn’t used to it. I almost hit a bus. But, the most reckless thing I ever did was having unprotected sex when I was younger. I thank my lucky stars I never got pregnant or contracted a disease.

Did you become what you wanted to be when you grew up?

My parents were old-fashioned and never expected me to go to college. But I did. I became a teacher, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have liked to go into broadcasting. I got an MBA after being laid-off from the city—not once, but twice. I went into sales. But when the recession hit, I went back into teaching. I did love teaching until it became more about the test than the education. Now I am retired and would like to explore something else. But I also want to have fun with my retirement time too. I am single and would love to either travel or settle in an area with other singles who are still “young at heart”.
