I understand you mean to be sarcastic or ironic or whatever. I suppose we all have some form of myopia, seeing things as best we can from our own experiences and abilities. But that notwithstanding, I will say Margo’s job is to give her personal take on things—and that’s entertainment, nothing less, nothing more. In contrast, I had the mistaken impression that Liz Peek’s job was to report the facts and then interpret them (editorialize). So, you may be correct in that Liz, like Margo, writes columns that are meant to be entertainment rather than straight information. That’s fine with me. 

I remember when I first discovered the stories on the radio, and then when I rediscovered them as a college and once again as a young mother … Ms Sloan, I feel certain all your fans will, as I do, wish you the best.

Liz Peek, why don’t you ever posit something on why President Obama has made the decisions he has? And then make your argument in a logical way? All I can see is that you criticize and insinuate and make assertions you seem to expect your readers to accept as fact. Perhaps that is what you feel you do best or what you believe you can best contribute to the national conversation. Or perhaps you are doing what so many are doing these days—rather than reporting or even editorializing, you are instead entertaining. Wish I knew.

Hi, PDP. Nice to hear from you. Hard to say. Ingenious = clever, original, inventive. Eyes of the beholder, I guess. I figure there’s enough for me to worry about. Besides, whenever the wOw editors have pulled a post of mine out for special treatment of some sort, I’ve liked to think it was because they have perfectly wonderful good judgment, taste, and intelligence and that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

My Summer Vacation  My family stayed home this year. No camp. No traveling. No nothing. Grandma told us that it would be the best kind of vacation. But I didn’t’ believe her. I wanted to go stay in a hotel and ride on an airplane and go to camp with other kids and stuff like that. Instead Mom and Dad said no way jose and that we had to make our own fun. I cried for days. Then, Grandma started to come over and we made cookies and masks and learned to draw new things and do papier-mâché and planted vegetables and watched them grow and ate them (my watermelon was h-u-g-e) and flowers and weeding and frogs and raptors at the Great Swamp and did you know there are museums all over the place for art and science and all sorts of stuff and other kids that go there and free concerts and a PLAY!  (I was the bean stalk) that kids can do for neighbors and the money can go to kids who are hungry and and and …  …. it was as good a summer as Grandma said.  

Tim Gunn was/is after all an educator. It pleases me that such a person is so respected and liked.

I don’t get it, but then humor can be very subjective. I know someone at wOw really really thought about all that was written on the "caption this" thread and after much deliberation chose these two as the winners. I’m glad for Eileen and Kathleen. I know it’s always a tickle to be honored this way.
