Putting aside matters of law, criminality and ethics, what three people would you nominate to be offed?

wOw, have you really completely lost it? Or are you throwing it all away on purpose?

Sheila Nevins on Metaphors and Murder

A voice of reason in a society gone mad. Thank you, Sheila.

wOw Reports: What News Matters to You – And Why?

A piece of news that matters to me is that there was a teeny little mistake made in the reporting of the gathering in Washington DC this past Saturday. Seems like the photo showing the crowds was real, but it was of a crowd at an entirely different event. In addition, thus far the reports on the crowd’s size puts it at a respectable 70,000 or so to as many as 2,000,000. Ah, well. Not THAT much difference, heh? See the article in PolitiFact.com:

Speaking about truth, Countrywoman, and for a giggle or two, see:http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2009/sep/14/tea-party-photo-shows-large-crowd-different-event/

Countrywoman! Been a while. Hi! How are ya? I’ve really missed reading your thoughts on things. So nice to see you today. I too hope we get through this time without too much damage. The results of the elections next year will be very interesting …

You do a good job of it, C. I fall short too many times myself, but I really do try too.

We all are not doing so great, but we still have many many blessings and we’re grateful for them all. Thank you for asking. I trust your description of what’s on those sites. All those sad mean words just get me down, so I won’t indulge today, if you don’t mind. I don’t have any well formed theories about why we as a people are finding it easier and easier to be as offensive as possible. But it seems to me that we are capable of voicing our disagreements in ways that encourage conversation and problem solving, rather than in ways that encourage anger, disrespect, and even violence. Don’t you think? It’s our choice to make …

C Hardy, hi. I hope you and your young family are doing well in these hard times. I trust you are. I don’t usually follow links unless I recognize them as legitimate sources, and I don’t recognize the ones you offered here, so I have not opened them. However, I can respond to your question to a degree: I don’t see anything wrong with demonstrating peacefully, even if I find the signs or the words offensive. But not everyone is offended by the same things I am offended by, and so be it. About the difference between the reactions to President Obama vs President Bush, well there are a million blogs and posts and opinions and even one or two FACTs about that. You and I have access to them all, and you and I will make up our own minds about them — and again, so be it. I know you are somewhat inclined to question what you are told, and I applaud you for that and hope with all my heart you continue to be so … Take it from an old lady: it’s the seeking, not the finding, that matters.

Are you serious? You are equating the behavior of Kanye and Williams to Joe Wilson’s? This is just outright silliness. I will not add to the mountains of misinformation and illogic and manipulative race baiting; it’s just too easy to play that game. Keep knitting, Deb …

You’re really sumthin’, deb: Kanye + Democratic Party = non sequitur

Pets - meet my cat

You’re so lucky to have had them so long, Lila. I hope for you many many more moments of love and affection …

While our country’s elected representatives attempt to cooperate on making US healthcare better for all, the statistics continue to prove the US wanting. Here are some of the latest from the World Health Organization [but they’re probably only leftist propaganda; after all, so many on the "conservative" side continue to report that the US is #1):

WHO as of 2009:

Gross national income per capita (PPP international $): US 44,070; Italy 28,970; France 32,240; Canada 36,280

Life expectancy at birth m/f (years): US 75/80; Italy 78/84; France 77/84; Canada 78/83

Healthy life expectancy at birth m/f (years, 2003): US 67/71; Italy 71/75; France 69/75; Canada 70/74

Probability of dying under five (per 1 000 live births): US 8; Italy 4; France 5; Canada 6

Probability of dying between 15 and 60 years m/f (per 1 000 population): US 137/80; Italy 83/44; France 124/57; Canada 89/55

Total expenditure on health per capita (Intl $, 2006): US 6,714; Italy 2,623; France 3,554; Canada 3,672

Total expenditure on health as % of GDP (2006): US 15.3; Italy 9.0; France 11.1; Canada 10.0

Best news today: President Obama on 60 Minutes looks comfortable and sure of the direction in which we are moving:

So much heat is being directed at him, personal as well as political, yet his demeanor is still so statesmanlike and calm. We did a good thing, electing him … Reminds me of one of his campaign speeches, right after he’d be seriously attacked:

Yah, I think there are quite a few of us who are feeling this economy in very personal ways. I hate hearing that services we call chip in for have to be cut. I have no job, so I cannot pay taxes, which means the police and firefighters and librarians and on and on can’t be supported … It’s very hard. Best to you, Newzie …
