What's your viewpoint on a one-term presidency for Obama, no matter the reason?

Firstly, all of you who truly believe that "The American People" have ever had representatives in the Federal Government are naive beyond belief. The politician is a power-grabbing, me-me-me person who doesn’t give a crap about anything but keeping whatever power they’ve already collected, and adding to it at every opportunity.

Secondly, the main problem with the visible output of Democrats is that they cannot combine concern for social/human needs/rights with fiscal responsibility. Their power comes from pandering to those U.S. Citizens that wear rose-colored blinders.

Thirdly, the main problem with the visible output of Republicans is that they cannot combine fiscal responsibility with any concern for social/human needs/rights. Their power comes from pandering to those U.S. Citizens that do not have any concept of the human condition.

and D, vote for whom you want, the incumbent will still win >90% of the time. Sure, a president may fall in one term, but the string-pullers are always there…

It's a Strange Love, by Mary Wells (Photos)

Great story, insights into a fabulous life. I’d give my left one to own a gaff-rigged 3-masted schooner (I’m not into those big motorized Monte Carlo-looking things) and would most likely spend so little time on land I’d forget how to walk… There was a 60 Minutes story (maybe Leslie did it) about some rich guy who owns the world’s best sailing vessel - I want that one!

If you had Warren Buffett's money, in what industry would you invest?

I’d give all but $500M to charities & the Arts (Am Cancer, Am Alzheimers, several Early Music groups, The Smithsonian, The Metropolitan in NY, etc.). With the $500M, my wife and I would pull up stakes and travel trying to spend it before we die…

Dear Margo: Marrying a Guy in the Mormon Closet. Oy.

Marriage is a bond between two people. Religion places the procreation aspect upon the bond. If they wish to be married, more power to them. Get over it!

It's the Abortion Issue, Stupid, by Mr. wOw

Now for my opinion: this adder was put on to scuttle the bill. There was no way for the Republicans and Right-to-Life Demos to stop the bill with votes, so they put on something that they knew most would not vote against for fear of losing their popular (!) support. Fear of the religious right is rampant, and fear of even moderate religious folks is even more pervasive, and it should be for a politician. The religious folks are willing to get up off their asses and actually put their vote & money where their mouths (if not necessarily their brains) are, unlike us moderate, non-religious, antichrists who spend voting day in the pool and never give a dime towards buying off a politician.

Shame really, but I sure hope that bill dies in the Senate… unless someone there has the balls to make abortion completely supported by government funds.

Good on you! Me too! I have donated, and will continue to do so. I am also the owner of the only car I’ve ever seen with a KEEP ABORTIONS LEGAL bumper sticker!

They are all looking to keep their income and they are all aware of their image and they fully believe (probably rightly) that the same people that watch the crap on today’s TV are the people who will keep them in the money. Talk is cheap, getting out there and actually doing something, well good f’n luck!

Quit Dithering, by E. D. Hill

I pick both doors 1 & 2.

What is it about professional sports that fuels grudges and vehement reactions to the opposing teams?

While I cannot understand the phenomenon, I do not believe there’s a "correct" answer to the question. Most likely social behavioral learning in humans comes closest. Testosterone is probably a exacerbator.

Dear Margo: He Wants You to What?

Reading "Disheartened in Pennsylvania"’s letter reminded me of reading the letters to Penthouse magazine many (so many!) years ago… Much sympathy if it’s a real story… guy needs assistance with accepting "NO!"

Dining room table? Fur coat? A new house? What was your first 'adult' purchase?

The money taken out of my USAF $38/month paycheck for my first set of uniforms… I’m fairly sure a clothing allowance was given me, but it didn’t feel like it when the money was removed for several months…

The milkman cometh back! Do you remember a time when he delivered your milk?

There were milkmen in Anaheim when I was young, but my dad was a Marine so we got our dairy at the commissary (mostly concentrated milk in wax cartons that mom diluted 4-to-1 with tap water). We don’t drink milk now, but we do use cream in our coffee every morning which I get at the local New Leaf Market in pint returnable bottles… butter fat separated and all. Really good stuff!
