Joan Juliet Buck: Trust Your Gadgets

LOL.  As we all get a little older, they keep making things smaller.  I SWEAR the font in the phone book is smaller….it’s not just my eyes.  So we suffer exponentially as our eyes worsen and companies pat themselves on their backs for their ingeniously smaller inventions.

The iPod Doesn't Tempt Joan Ganz Cooney

That is hysterical.  Walkman?

Natasha Richardson, 45, Dies After Ski Accident

A beautiful piece, Suzanne.  You said it all with eloquence and grace.  Thank you.

Meghan McCain Bites Back at Laura Ingraham

Yeah, like Warren Buffet..totally immature.  Definitely not grown up.  The uniting factor of Conservatives in America is fearfulness.  Maybe old folks get more fearful with the years.  Go ahead. Google it. Not making it up.

Thanks for pointing that out in such a masculine way SJ!  ;)

Party of No seems like a great name.

Obviously challenging the fact that he is not American enough, and not Christian enough doesn’t count.

Liz Smith's 'Most Satisfying' Present

Wow. That jeweler must be Old.

Liz Smith: Internet, Cable and the Recession

Liz!  I think Buffet said that on CNBC last week.  We need to liken this crisis to WW2 after Pearl Harbour.  Exactly!  I think it is being underplayed to avoid a total collapse of the consumer-based economy.

As power shifts in Washington from a We-The-Consumers-based corporocracy, to a  We-The-People-based Democracy, there will be some growing pains.  But if we all stop shopping the economy WILL collapse.

We actually don’t need new shoes, new clothes, new cars, new anything.  We have WAY more stuff than any other generation perceived as necessary. I remember the tiny closets in my Grandmother’s house which speak volumes as to the mindset of a generation.  She had several dresses for different occasions and one or two coats.

Cap, go outside and get some fresh air.  You are talking to a brick wall in here. It is classic cognitive dissonance.  The narrow paradigm of the neo-con life is so rigid they will never seek understanding or non-partisanship because they are actually afraid to embrace equality and real democracy. Some of these posters ideology doesn’t encourage colouring outside the lines at all.   They are shallow enough to sincerely believe that we were all just jealous of Sarah’s beauty.  While we were all hugely impressed with her when she came on the scene for about 5 minutes, after she opened her mouth a couple times we realized she was a prop and a sham, and feeble attempt to reinvent the Republican brand and her tactics of generating fear of Obama were creating a bigger chasm that can never be filled.

I agree. Cleaner/greener!!!  I don’t want my Alberta family getting cancer from the long arm of ground water or air born matter either!  I would prefer NOT to touch the Oil Sands at all because we came up with something ELSE, but sadly, I think we cannot move that quickly away from an oil-based industrial world.

But the project has been slowed by the economy and the dropped gas prices. A Lot of capital has vapourized lately.  Also, it didn’t help when Buffet came to town and decided NOT to invest it seemed.

What was Bush doing there?

I m suggesting that Dan Rather losing his job was a McCarthyist-like move.

Are you willing to accept more gov't regulation and fewer choices in health care to cut costs and provide insurance for all?

OK.  I am reposting:

Not only is it unconscionable for a few to profit by putting the lives of the infirm at risk through any denial of health care by any perceivable loophole, but it is the unalienable, universal right of humanity to survive survivable illness.  America must first get rid of its tendency toward s=Stockholm syndrome….that is, being held hostage by the drug companies and the (allegedly) massive rampant, corrupt health insurance companies.  That very principle should resonate within you as a nation——even if you can afford to spend a million dollars on an operation, why should you when you paid millions in taxes?

One of my earliest memories was of me alone with my mom in a protest crowd fighting for universal medical in Canada when I was about 3 years old.  She held me up high above the crowd of women and banners and posters, and I screamed in fear because all I could see were the beady eyes of grey men in thin ties, white shirts and Elvis suits staring back at me as they were taken aback at my shrieking.   But we won, didn’t we?

Let there be no mistake.  Socialized medicine is a term perpetrated by a few to instill perceived fear of reduced freedoms in the individual.  What the rest of the world is experiencing in civilized nations is actually universal health care.

Let there be no mistake.  Socialized medicine is a term perpetrated by a few- (guess who?)to create some odd fear, in the individual, of reduced freedoms.  What the rest of the world is experiencing in civilized nations is actually universal health care.
