What is your favorite perfume? What do you associate with it?

yikes, Cherokee, I hope your day got better after that … alas, you certainly ruined my good mood … don’t understand the need for being so rude and unpleasant here

What is your favorite perfume? What do you associate with it?

Thanks for posting this! … would have been very useful too on some other ‘threads’ …

When is the last time you sent a handwritten letter?

Frannie, that is the sweetest tale … and that you kept the hand-drawn stationary! Joanne Appleby sounds like a character you should write a story about …

When is the last time you sent a handwritten letter?

… oh, Frannie, I think we are just lovely ‘vintage’ … and some things well worth kept polished, like handwriting, and are always worth the effort! … hope you are having good times with your son!

Berverly, I like your take on C. Rose “what he is doing is flirting, the man thing takes control of his brain” - irritating, yes, - funny, maybe not so much (just read what E. said about his interview with Emmylou Harris …) - but, as we all said before, it’s the one of the best shows on TV, with the most interesting people, topics, discussions - so of course one keeps watching and stays on one’s toes too …

The New Catch-22 for Women

… not too crass at all … a great , and fun, contribution, thanks Erica! “… and it is practically a true Olympian feat to be able to outfox or outrun one’s retirement plan (assuming one has one, a pretty weighty assumption)” - that says it all, and for many a ‘free lancer’ working in the arts/literature/media it is a pretty weighty assumption indeed …

Which online resource do you use most often?

Wikipedia, IMDb (movie database), Google - and then NY Times incl. topical blogs, NPR, PBS, BBC and several European magazines, then the Strand Bookstore and Barnes & Noble (seem to be my most visited sites…) - and yes, wouldn’t know what to do without Dictionary/Thesaurus widget on MacBook

If you were a rock star, who would you be?

oh,Peg … this was great … and how could I forget Ray Davies on my list … love listening to The Kinks, and to his new solo discs too

Eunice's Period. Stopped, by Sheila Nevins

Yeah, Maurine! beautifully said … here’s to all the lovely, confident, beautiful crones! (and I’ll include myself…)

Thanks, Mugsy, … much appreciated … I am often coming late to these ‘threads’ (don’t visit that often, and am slow in putting down a comment and posting …), so that many times what I think has already been said (and yes, often times by you … hm?!) - on the other hand, there are topics that interest me and don’t get much commentary - it seems people like to be on those ‘controversy threads’, which I try to avoid - just skipping thru some times makes me so mad that I simply walk my typing fingers away (otherwise there might be a warrant out for me on a certain fluffy beach tennis court in S.F.… ) wish though, there would be a topic about the site itself (have a few pretty strong thoughts about that … ;) - anyway, spending too much time on the computer … not my goal in life …

Hi Mugsy and Phyllis … yes, re. Mugsy’s post above: in total agreement —- sorry for jumping in here, P, but I missed M’s comment on Charlie Rose … but I do share that thought (posted about it somewhere on this site, at some time …) - it’s a great show because one doesn’t get to see these kind of people, discussions and interviews anywhere else on tv … but Mr. Rose can get me to the point of shouting at the screen for him to let his guests speak and not to try to prove so damn hard how smart he is, he often seems condescending but in my view more so to women … and then he would never dare to say to any male guest something like ‘I adore you’ which he does to female guests … not to be too pc here, and he should certainly express being a great fan of whatever actress/writer, but it is just very uneven … just my take on it, sorry, I know you wanted to hear from M. ….

… noticed it too … hilarious (really hope the wow staff has that kind of humor … )

A Letter to Liz Smith, by Diane Judge

Thanks for this! … gotta love New York all over again (just when one is fed up with it all… there’s something like this, a real Metropolitan-Diary-Moment …), and Broadway Theatre, and dear Liz Smith, and now you too, dear Diane Judge! Thanks.

When is the last time you sent a handwritten letter?

Like a pretty present in the mail” … what a sweet thing that is! Thanks Frannie, for saying it so well - (and Hello to you, hope this finds you well!) … and handwritten notes often are received as a present: just this past weekend my 75 year old aunt called to thank me for her birthday letter, and said even the postman (in Germany) had commented on the handwritten letter, and the cool Frank Sinatra stamp … which of course she knew why I had put that on there … … vice versa, yesterday I received a letter from my cousin’s 6 year old, all block-letters and drawings about the new rabbits she and her brother had just gotten … what a lovely present (and she is seriously asking for a letter in return!) so, yes, I still write letters, notes and even a lot of my writing (before it goes into the computer) by hand … just a different thought process, I think… and I am lucky to have a bunch of ‘old’ girlfriends, who love writing - but, yes, of course it’s now all mixed in with e-mail … but, I am afraid, my little cousins will get an answer before some of the many e-mails I’m behind in responding to …
