Whoopi Goldberg to Dr. Laura: Are You Crazy? Don't Blame Eliot Spitzer's Wife

I’m married to a lawyer, and I’ll take a wild guess that Silda has had to put up with a lot of a-hole behavior from hubby, that if it’s left only to the wife to deal with — will end up in a dysfunctional sex life. Maybe she’s withholding, and it turned into kind of a game of chicken — leave the Type A crap at the door, or else — so maybe on some unconscious level, she was looking for an out.

Texas Cowgirl and 'Tenderfoot' Memories

Thank you for sharing your memories. I read that article, too, and came away so impressed with the civic attitude it showed. I live in the NorthEast, and I am so sick of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) atittudes standing in the way of innovations that could help the greater good. Good for Louis!

From James Frey to J.T. Leroy and beyond: Why are publishers such easy marks for fake memoirs?

I agree with Joan and Peggy, so won’t be adding too much here. I think the people working in publishing live in a rarified atmosphere that makes them poor judges of true authenticity; yet, as Peggy says, all it would have taken is a bit of professional-level due diligence to have saved everyone a lot of embarrassment. I just wanted to say that my knee-jerk reaction would have been to assume that ladies like Joan and Peggy move in the same kind of rarified atmosphere. I am SO GLAD to have this website, for a chance to learn that I was wrong!

Age, Sex and the Sometimes Single Girl

Kudos to Liz & Co. for your continued appetites … but I’m with Elizabeth and Roberta, as are a lot of my friends. If my marriage ended abruptly for any reason, looking for a man would be the last thing on my mind. “My time” time!

Confessions of a Couch Potato

TV I could take or leave; but I am definitely addicted to the computer. There’s always some new piece of information that I simply must investigate!

Ruminating in the Aftermath

Sorry, that should read “out of Dodge”

Ruminating in the Aftermath

The news just said that of all Spitzer’s advisors, one in particular is fighting the idea of resignation: Spitzer’s wife. I don’t think that’s the stance of a woman trying desperately to save her marriage and protect her children. If I were in their position, I’d want to get out of Dudge as quickly as possible; out of the limelight is the only way a family can truly get its act back together, IMO.

Attention Must Be Paid

I’m on the other fringe of the baby boom. While Liz’s cri du corps is inspiring, I think it’s important for “The New Elders” to toss aside some of the self-centeredness that has marked the Baby Boom generation. Intelligent consumerism, fine — but I don’t think the country can support a lot of the BBs in the manner to which they have become accustomed. With age comes wisdom — time for the BB to lead with an example that demonstrates the right priorities in life. And for life.

Ruminating in the Aftermath

The real sin will be if it turns out Spitzer used public funds for his tryst. Has that been determined yet? I don’t understand why a bank would bring in the feds because of a series of large withdrawals from a private bank account …

Should Silda Spitzer stand by her man?

Maybe I’m way too picky … but if I had shelled out $5500 and the hooker called me “dude” … I’d go flaccid right then and there.
