Sarah Palin is impressive as governor of Alaska-hockey-mom-conservative-anti-choice-pretty-lady-with-five kids, BUT..as a possible president??? I don’t think so. I think the conservative powers that be chose her because with her on the ticket they could garner some votes and if, and this is important, McCain dies in office they could control her. Her lack of experience will be very useful to Carl Rove and Dick Cheney and the like.

Sorry, the polar bears will not be bailed out. Which brings me to the topic of women and animals. Women must be at the forefront of a movement that recognized animals as sentient beings. There are still too many women wearing fur and ignoring the suffering that is behind the fur industry. Women are still taking their children to the circus to see wild animals perform. Please, my sisters, understand that we can never be considered civilized as long as we tolerate any suffering, including that which is endured by animals for our stupid pleasures.

Criticizing the Catholic hierarchy is not “Catholic bashing.” People know there is something wrong and want answers. If you think the church has responded appropriately for all of the abuses the clergy has visited upon children around the world for eons you have another think coming. The USA was just a drop in the bucket of abuses. Abuses that went on in the Philippines, Spain, the Caribbean etc. have yet to be addressed, but don’t hold your breath. Sure, sure I know about the good priests but remember, a lot of these “innocent” priests knew what was going on but said nothing and did nothing. Jay Bocchicchio

Interesting that none of this discussion on the afterlife touches on evidence. Quoting what some guy wrote hundreds of years ago is not evidence. Wouldn’t you think that by now there would be some scientific proof that believers could point to? But alas no!

Funny how I would have chosen any one of those options at different stages in my life. Now at 65 I say “let it pass” but be mindful and get more information. Women are natural born investigators and gatherers of information. And do get tested. Life is too complicated to act impulsively.

Can we stop calling the War with Iraq “the war?” This is not a war. This is an invasion and occupation. I think calling it “a war” is using the vocabulary of those who engineered this fiasco and keeps us from thinking about the real horror of it all.
