Who Is the Biggest Liar?

i do not believe that obama lied… when he said he could no sooner denounce him that he could his white grandmother, he, the reverend wright was not publicly castigating obama, although his actions were hurting him. what wright did at the national press club was, metaphorically speaking, spit in obama’s face. he had to reject him at that point. circumstances change… if you say you will love your husband forever and walk in and find him in bed with another woman and reject him and throw him out… did you lie when you said you would love him forever?

my thoughts on who is best prepared to dig us out of the very deep hole in which we find ourselves… in my mind it is not who but what. what we have to be prepared to do is ‘bite the bullet.’ this means control gov’t spending, control waste, and reduce the amount of fuel we consume. on who: it is going to take someone committed to doing the right thing. this person and i believe that this is obama. will have to have the guts, fortitude, character, and strength to do the ‘right’ thing… not the easy thing. it will require the cooperation of the congress. yes, it will cost more initially to get us back on our feet, but it takes money to make money. removing the tax breaks on the wealthy will generate some, removing the cap on ss and increasing the retirement age will strengthen social security; but more importantly ending the war will stop the bleeding and keep us from going further into the pit. a new wpa program would create jobs. these jobs will be geared toward improving our infrastructure[our highways and bridges are in a sad state of repair, as are our schools.] creating incentives for green energy alternatives will create more jobs. discouraging companies from going offshore by removing the loopholes that encourage same; and maybe even tariffs on the finished product when they ‘import’ them into the country. tax breaks and incentives in order to keep companies that are here, here in the u.s. in order to stabilize our downward spiraling economy people must have jobs in order to buy the goods, houses, automobiles, and other products produced here. as someone once said about money… “give it to the poor people… they’ll spend it.” one thing that hurts us in the global economy is the high cost of our health care relative to other countries. socialized medicine is a large part of it. i don’t know the answer but i do know that the cost of health insurance to business is a huge part of what keeps us from being able to keep jobs at home and competitive on the world stage.

kitty, i disagree. the glass steagall act separated investment banking from commercial banking, in effect curbing speculation. clinton in ‘99 repealed the glass-steagall act when he signed into law the gramm-leach-bliley act. this act allowed the consolidation of commercial and investment banks. basically the repeal of the gsa allowed the fox to watch the chicken house. here is a simple explanation of the glass steagall act and a little history as to what led to the act. this from wsf: Following the Great Crash of 1929, one of every five banks in America failed. Many people, especially politicians, saw the market speculation engaged in by banks during the 1920s as a cause of the crash. In 1933, Senator Carter Glass (D-Va.) and Congressman Henry Steagall (D-Ala.) introduced the historic legislation that bears their names, seeking to limit the conflicts of interest created when commercial banks are permitted to underwrite stocks or bonds. In the early part of the century, individual investors were seriously hurt by banks whose overriding interest was promoting stocks of interest and benefit to the banks, rather than to individual investors. The new law banned commercial banks from underwriting securities, forcing banks to choose between being a simple lender or an underwriter (brokerage). The act also establishes the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), insuring bank deposits, and strengthened the Federal Reserve’s control over credit. The Glass-Steagall Act passes after Ferdinand Pecora, a politically ambitious former New York City prosecutor, drums up popular support for stronger regulation by hauling bank officials in front of the Senate Banking and Currency Committee to answer for their role in the stock-market crash. In 1956, the Bank Holding Company Act is passed, extending the restrictions on banks, including that bank holding companies owning two or more banks cannot engage in non-banking activity and cannot buy banks in another state. Following the Great Crash of 1929, one of every five banks in America fails. Many people, especially politicians, see market speculation engaged in by banks during the 1920s as a cause of the crash. The act also establishes the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), insuring bank deposits, and strengthens the Federal Reserve’s control over credit. let the games begin: In the spring of 1987, the Federal Reserve Board votes 3-2 in favor of easing regulations under Glass-Steagall Act, overriding the opposition of Chairman Paul Volcker. The vote comes after the Fed Board hears proposals from Citicorp, J.P. Morgan and Bankers Trust advocating the loosening of Glass-Steagall restrictions to allow banks to handle several underwriting businesses, including commercial paper, municipal revenue bonds, and mortgage-backed securities. Thomas Theobald, then vice chairman of Citicorp, argues that three “outside checks” on corporate misbehavior had emerged since 1933: “a very effective” SEC; knowledgeable investors, and “very sophisticated” rating agencies. Volcker is unconvinced, and expresses his fear that lenders will recklessly lower loan standards in pursuit of lucrative securities offerings and market bad loans to the public. and volkers fears are now realized because this is exactly what caused the subprime crisis. For many critics, it boiled down to the issue of two different cultures - a culture of risk which was the securities business, and a culture of protection of deposits which was the culture of banking. in my mind, the repeal of the gsa removed the safeguards implemented by the act to protect us from just what is happening right now. and now we are out here swinging in the breeze… again.

The Blame Game: Why Is the Price of Gasoline Through the Roof?

The middle of the middleclass and the lower of the upper class think it won’t touch them.” they forget…a chain is only as strong as its’ weakest link.

the father-in-law of a friend of mine was the third man under the shah, and ran the savak. they were run out of iran by khomeini, lost almost everything, came to the states and started over. they are very well educated and very western… i listened to them talk about iran and the people of iran’s love of all things western. at the time i was in contact with them[‘91/94.] they told me how, when under the rule of khomeini, the women would dress to go to a party in traditional dress and with the burkha on and under the traditional garb an armani dress and makeup. once they were inside off went the burkha and the traditional dress. they love western music, dancing, philosophy, they are great engineers, they are sophisticated, and well educated. my point is, the clinton’s know this. why would we attack a country that is at odds with it’s gov’t and threaten to decimate them? iraq was a dictatorship BUT the women could dress as they chose, become educated, and achieve professional success. we have decimated their country, destroyed their infrastructure, killed their woman and children, and sent them back to the stone age. for what? certainly not for 9/11. they weren’t involved. saddam hussein, a dictator, was certainly not going to crawl in bed with the religious fanatics,[al quaeda.] and now we are to do a repeat performance with iran?!?!? in my mind hillary is bush jr…. a female wannabe WAR president. as richard clark stated, when asked what he thought about the u.s. invading iraq, paraphrasing here, he said that “it is was like the u.s. invading mexico because the japanese bombed pearl harbor,” in my mind it was all about oil and control of the middle east.

i just reread your post and yes, perhaps the verbiage is as you say. the thing i heard her was the obliteration of iran and my mind froze. all those ridiculous question from the bobbsey twins and then when they finally start asking substantive questions she came out with that. i think the rest of the world took it the same way i did if the papers are any indication. this is truly a sad state of affairs.

hi deni, something is wrong on this site… i must have 20 posts saying almost the same thing… it kinda evolved as i sat here getting more po’d. IRAN: Hillary’s threat to “obliterate” in war reverberates Los Angeles Times, CA - 13 hours ago Hillary Rodham Clinton’s vow to “obliterate” Iran, presumably with nuclear weapons, if it attacked Israel on her watch was duly noted in the US Jaded … Hillary Clinton threatens to “obliterate” Iran Bay Area Indymedia link is from the la times. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2008/04/iran-hillarys-t.ht…
