Jesus Was a Communist! (and Other Insights From David Cay Johnston's Conversation With Whoopi Goldberg)

Frannie, You are so right! It took us all-at some level of action or inaction-to get into this mess and it will take us all to get out of it. Doesn’t matter what the issue is: sagging economy; foreign relations; oil dependence; global warming; government corruption; campaign finance reform-on and on and on! Perhaps it sounds too utopian-but what choice do we have? The issues aren’t partisan, but power will always accrue to those who exercise it. I still believe in our power as citizen activists-even if it is just voting.

Maurine, Exactly, and more to the point, all governments/systems/ideologies have corruption/waste and inbred innefficiency. They are after all comprised of “human beings”. But many humans are dedicated, honest and care about their fellow beings. Corporations don’t have consciences. All isms can be destructive; don’t we need what Jesus preached-individuals treating each other as they wished to be treated? And some protection from “greedy people” for the least among us? Doesn’t matter what you call it; are we wasting time and energy arguing about which “ism”.

Ditto-thank you for sharing all your research. Everything I’ve seen and read on Eric Prince scares the hell out of me! On another thread we were talking about the Saudi’s (Wahabi extremists); now we have our own extremists with their own private army-very scary.

The Saudis Are Players and Corrupt up to Their Eyeballs, by Monica Crowley

Frannie, You are just right! We, any concerned American citizen, should have been yelling at the top of our lungs, for an energy policy that would have minimized our dependence on oil. We have known this was a serious problem since the sixites, in most think tank circles, and the general public should have realized when the oil embargo hit in the seventies. Every elected and appointed government official should be held accountable for developing and implementing a sensible energy policy. We can only force that through our votes and our buying choices. We are reaping the choices that we have sowed. Time to make the hard choice for the sake of our children and grandchildren!

wowOwow Salutes Our Friend, Tim Russert

I feel such a sense of loss. I trusted him to tell the truth and always press others to do the same. A huge loss for his family and our nation “family”. Who will fill his shoes during this election cycle? Too soon gone! We will miss you, Tim.

What is the best advice your dad ever gave you?

Lily, Thank you so much for your response; I will order it from my local Barnes &Noble. I appreciate your taking the time to answer. I follow this site quite a bit and enjoy the discussions, especially the group I see you with. (Frannie Em, Deni-et.al.) have a great day!

What is the best advice your dad ever gave you?

Lily, I have been looking for a book that you recommended in a previous post; “Legacy of the Heart-The Spiritual Advantages of a Painful Childhood”, but haven’t been able to locate. Could you advise on where to find. I tried to find you on Blogspot-but couldn’t. Thanks so much for your help. Maybe this is an appropriate thread to inquire on?? Thanks

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Mugsy, Frannie Em, Beth Willis, Deni et.al.-; where are y’all? This site is boring and pretentious without your discussions. Why don’t we choose a topic of our own to discuss; so many important issues have been raised here.

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Wow, Mugsy you amaze me. You just stated everything I think when I read these posts; why aren’t we talking about these serious issues, rather than fighting about the past and what did or didn’t work? Women are going to have to stand up and fight to be part of the solution if anything is going to really change. All women!

Liz Smith on Hillary: 'A Lot of Obama's Supporters Would Just Die if He Chose Her'

Mike, Exactly, these are serious issues for our everyone, of any stripe, if we want our children and grandchildren to have any chance at a decent future. What about all the local elections; anyone have a lead on good potential Senators/Congresspeople, who might actually care about the country?

Violence: A Substitute for Story, by Film Director Joan Tewkesbury

I couldn’t agree more about the content of most of todays films. And movies like Judi Dench’s Iris doesn’t get an Oscar! She does keep hope alive that there is still quality out there. Very few of the recycled versions of the “Hollywood classics” are worth the price of admission.
