Excellent. Thank you very much.

Katie Couric Says Sexism Is More Tolerated Than Racism

Sorry. But, Katie Couric would not be anchoring the CBS news if she were an African American female, or male.” Maizie - It’s a numbers game. CBS was looking to improve their ratings. The Today show has a huge following. In bringing Katie on, CBS hoped she could drag along her Today show fans. CBS tried this previously with Bryant Gumbel. They tried to develop an evening news magazine show hoping Bryant’s Today show fans would tune it. It didn’t work then, it isn’t working now.

What music makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? Why?

This morning I went to YouTube to listen to Raul Esparza sing Being Alive from Company. When the show was on PBS a few months ago I had the flu and watched it 3 or 4 times. The show has a wonderful soundtrack that has stood the test of time. I also have the Les Miserables soundtrack from the 10th anniversary concert at Royal Albert Hall. It never fails to make me cry when I listen to it. Other than that I like to work to Beethoven and Mozart when I really need to concentrate. I also listen to jazz and R&B. Of the contemporary scene, my current favorite is John Legend. Have any of you tried out Pandora Radio? http://www.pandora.com

Happy Birthday to wOw! Plus a New Contributor and a New Design

Oh, and after posting a reply I don’t want to be returned to the first page of comments, but instead to the place where I was when I posted.

Happy Birthday to wOw! Plus a New Contributor and a New Design

I agree. I also wish they would add the ability to receive email notice when someone replies to your posting, and a way to track where you left off reading in a particular thread. I also noticed that when I moused over poster’s names the text said “Viewer’s Profile” or some such. I click expecting to see the poster’s profile, instead I got all of their postings. I like the idea of the latter, but would like the text to reflect the actual feature and would also like to be able to see a poster’s profile if they want to make it public.

At a Table in So-Called Liberal NYC, Woman Announces: I’ll Never Vote for a Black Man for President

Eleanor - I so totally agree. Leslie apparently hasn’t spent much time in her home state of Massachusetts since leaving for greener pastures. I moved to Boston in 1981 from NYC. I was amazed by how segregated the Greater Boston area was and still largely is. It was here that I also experienced several overt bruhes with antisemitism. I was also taken aback when it was announced in the mid or late ’80s that public housing would be desegregated. Having lived in an integrated city housing project in NYC until I was eleven and we could afford to move out, I couldn’t believe that the projects in Boston were segregated. In the ’90s I worked at a software company where an engineer from Nigeria was routed in the parking garage for no good reason as he walked to get his car. In thi same company was a man about 35 years old who still held a grudge over the school busing fiasco in the ’70s.

What Killed Microsoft’s Bid for Yahoo? Testosterone

Rather than testosterone, it could well have been a clever strategy by Jerry Yang to get Microsoft to walk away. After all this was a hostile take over by Microsoft after having been spurned once before by Yahoo.

wOw's Views on the News: Can Clinton, Obama or McCain Get Us Out of This $9.1 Trillion Hole?

You need to take a closer look at Mitt Romney’s “stellar” record on taxes in Massachusetts. http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/romneys-tax-record-gets-a-closer-loo… for more just Google Mitt Romney’s tax record.

wOw's Comments of the Week 4/21 - 4/25

Dear Dr. Klein - If you don’t think women are playing with a full deck, and you think women are pathetic, weak and unloved, then why do you keep coming back? Frankly I think you’re pathetic and should go away. Your posts in general do not offer dissenting opinions, but are filled with misogyny like the posting I’m replying to. PLEASE GO AWAY.

Who won last night's debate in Philadelphia?

Thank you Marjorie. As someone who is also from Massachusetts I can’t stress enough the truth of what you have said. You would think the likes of Teddy Kennedy and John Kerry would see that as well.

Privacy: Is It Yours for the Taking?

So how many of you have a cell phone and think nothing of using it in public, or in places that display a sign asking visitors to turn them off? I find it interesting that the discussion so far has focused on the internet and celebrity when the average person gives away their privacy many times a day by talking on a cell phone in the street, in stores, in doctor’s waiting rooms, etc. I once heard a man ordering something over his cell phone and giving his credit card number duh! Julia - As far a googling one’s self goes - savvy career women google themselves to find out what prospective employers are able to find out about them on the internet. You never know what someone is saying about you behind your back and knowing before you go on an interview rather than being blindsided while in the interview, or worse having the hiring manager find out after the interview, is better.
